I am extremely delighted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the University of Embu, School of Law. The School contributes to the University’s vision of providing excellent internationally recognized Legal Education through scholarly Training, Research and Innovation for service to humanity. The School of Law was licensed to offer legal education on 16th April 2019 pursuant to the provisions of the Legal Education Act, 27 of 2012 (as amended) and the relevant Regulations. This came after a rigorous process of accreditation by the Council of Legal Education involving a market survey, drafting of the curriculum, stakeholder’s forum, inspection and approval of School of Law facilities and other resources, recruitment of both academic and non-academic staff. The School received its inaugural cohort of students on 2nd September 2019.
The niche areas identified by the School include laws touching on land ownership, land use, agricultural practice, cooperative society practices, alternative conflict resolution systems, devolution and county governance. The School is committed to providing a holistic Legal Education Programme that combines Academic rigor with a hands-on practical experience which is deliberately structured to transcend antiquated legal formalism and adopt a fresh, interdisciplinary approach to equip students with relevant skills, knowledge and ethics needed for successful legal careers and related areas in the Country and globally. This commitment to excellence begins with our faculty. The School boasts of exceptionally qualified and committed academic and non-academic staff who seamlessly blend with our enriched Library and other Infrastructural Resources to ensure our students get an outstanding learning experience. While providing a solid legal education, coupled with ongoing interaction with members of the legal profession, the School endeavours to provide students with a range of transformative experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. Our school’s location close to law courts makes it relatively easy for our students to access and maximise practical learning possibilities.
I invite you to visit and explore what makes our law school outstanding.
