Empowering Farmers: School of Law Legal Aid Clinic Partners with School of Agriculture for Legal Aid and Training Clinic

The University of Embu’s School of Law Legal Aid Clinic (UoEmLAC), in collaboration with the School of Agriculture, hosted a transformative Legal Aid Clinic and Farmers’ Training on Thursday, 29th January 2026.

The event, held at the University Auditorium, brought together over 80 coffee farmers for a session aimed at bridging the gap between agricultural productivity and legal literacy. Led by the Chairman of the Department and Patron UoEmLAC and three SoL students who are members of UoEmLAC, the law team provided critical insights into Land Adjudication and Succession Planning.

The student presenters demystified complex legal frameworks, focusing on:

  • Land Ownership: Navigating the Physical Planning Act, constitutional land rights, and the adjudication process to secure tenure.
  • Succession Laws: Guidance on wills and the legal transition of ancestral land to ensure family stability.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR): Sensitizing farmers on Mediation, Arbitration, Reconciliation, and Negotiation as faster, cost-effective alternatives to court litigation.

This interdisciplinary initiative underscores the School of Law’s commitment to community outreach, empowering local farmers with the legal tools necessary to protect their property and resolve communal disputes effectively.
